About, privacy and terms
Updated October 1, 2026. mbweather.online is a free weather app made by an individual. It has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no cookies.
Privacy: what stays on your device
The app saves these in your browser's local storage, on your device only:
- Your home location (name and coordinates) and the place you are viewing.
- Your settings: units, view, light or dark theme, forecast model, season start date, last tab.
- Your limits for Windows (on the Plan tab).
- A list of alert IDs already notified, so you do not get repeats.
- A saved copy of recent forecasts (up to 3 places, kept 2 hours) so the app opens fast.
- A flag that you finished setup, and the time of your last backup.
- If you choose a backup location (Chrome, Edge and similar browsers), a reference to that file, kept in this browser's IndexedDB so Save backup now can overwrite it. The app never reads the file except when you import, and never sees your folder path.
The developer does not receive any of this. Delete it any time in Data, Clear all data. Export and import are in the same Data menu. A backup file you saved stays where you put it until you delete it yourself.
Privacy: what is sent to other services
The app has no server of its own. To work, your browser contacts these services directly. Each one sees your IP address and browser details, like any website, and each has its own privacy policy.
- Open-Meteo gets the coordinates of the place you view (and a grid of nearby coordinates for map layers), plus the text you type when you search for a place.
- US National Weather Service (api.weather.gov) gets those coordinates for alerts, nearby station observations and the written forecast.
- NOAA Tides and Currents gets requests for tide data for the nearest station.
- RainViewer serves radar images. Its requests reveal the map area you are viewing.
- OpenFreeMap serves street map tiles when you open the Map tab. If it cannot be reached, the app shows a simple outline map instead. Its requests reveal the map area you are viewing.
- jsDelivr and cdnjs (Cloudflare) deliver the map libraries and boundary data when you open the Map tab.
Your web host may also keep ordinary server logs (such as IP address) when the page loads. That is outside the app's control.
Your location. "Use my current location" asks your browser for permission. The app rounds it to about 1 km, saves it on your device and uses it to request weather. Do not enter passwords, Social Security numbers, card numbers or other sensitive information anywhere in this app. It does not need them.
Notifications. Alerts are checked on your device while the page is open. There is no push service, so nothing arrives when the page is closed.
Children. The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Terms of use
- Use. The app is free for ordinary personal and work use. Do not use it to attack, overload or scrape the app or the services it relies on, and do not use it for anything illegal.
- No guarantee. Forecasts and alerts are estimates from third-party sources. They can be wrong, late or missing, and the app can go down. Do not rely on it alone for safety, medical, legal, financial or regulatory decisions. For severe weather, follow official NWS and local emergency guidance.
- Windows and scores are simple rules and calculations you can inspect and change. They are planning aids, not safety or compliance advice.
- As is. The app is provided as is, without warranties. To the extent the law allows, the developer is not liable for losses from using it or from not being able to use it.
- Ownership. The app's design and code belong to its developer. Weather and map data belong to their providers and are used under their terms (see Credits).
- Changes. The app, these terms and the privacy notes can change or end at any time. The date above shows the latest update.
